The extensive amounts of explosives in this latter area should be eliminated from afar so that the enemies don't use such contraptions against you as you begin to breach their stronghold. The triangle on your HUD representing the area we have to get to on the cusp of the harbor area itself should now be in plain view, the red smoke plume giving you a visual as to where you need to go. But just think of how much of a pain in the ass that scenario could have been had you had to deal with numerous infantry in your vicinity as well as the armored vehicle? Yet another illustration that the slow and cautious prosper greatly in Battlefield: Bad Company. Otherwise, grenades or patience with your party will again be necessary to eliminate that threat. Thankfully, there is an ammo box in the area (meaning RPGs can be filled up if you have one with you), making the armored vehicle nothing but a slight chore to eliminate. Another good example of this is after the area where you found the gold, where another enemy armored vehicle makes itself seen. This earlier scenario should represent nicely how wide-open an area can truly be when you take the time to kill infantry units and eliminate other threats from afar.
